Chain of Sacrifice / Installation (found prayer on paper, mechanism, LED lamp) / 2013
As part of a project about Bogota’s Central Cemetery, I gathered evidence of certain funerary practices which exist at the margins of institutionalized rituals. I found small pieces of paper around its graves, with hand-written prayers and messages on them: these papers reflect other perspectives on death. I collected one of the papers, to later build a device with it: this device casts a shadow of the paper on a wall, which changes its shape as the prayer slowly turns. It becomes an “animated” and dynamic extension of the “obscure” practice at its origin.
